All Details about Driving Licence in India

 A driving Licence is a legal essential document in India for vehicle drivers. Without this document, nobody can drive car/bike on road that may be liable to fines and other compensate.

 

Why is the Driving Licence important?

Driving Licence in India is a permission to drive a specified category of the vehicle on the road i.e. may be a two-wheeler, four-wheeler or a commercial vehicle within territorial boundaries. Driving Licence is an official document issued by the Government of India to drive your car, truck, bus, bike etc and . It is authorize that the owner knows how to drive the vehicle and has undergone tests that abide by the traffic rules and regulations.

 

Different Types of Driving Licence in India

You may be a master the skill of driving any kind of vehicle but legally you cannot use it on the road unless you own a Licence. There are various types Licence in India use by the RTO office.

 

1.   Learner’s Licence

A Learner's License is a document issued by the respective state Regional Transport Office (RTO) and Regional Transport Authority (RTO) and acts as a provisional & restricted License. Before you get your permanent Licence, the Road Transport Authority issues you a learner’s Licence. The validity of this Licence is only for up to 6-months; that means you must apply your driving skills within this time frame. In this time period you can’t drive vehicle with any other person.  

2.   Permanent Licence.

 After a period of 6-months is over, the RTO issues a permanent Licence to the applicant. She / he should clear the driving test exam i.e. RTO is assured about the driving skills of the applicant. The age of the applicant should be 18 years old. The process of applying is made online and hence the complete process is pretty simple and hassle-free. The permanent Licence is issued for private vehicles like cars and bikes.

3.   Commercial Driving Licence

This type of Licence authorizes the driver to drive heavy vehicles. Such kind of vehicle is used to transport passengers or goods. The minimum eligibility criteria to apply for a commercial Licence are a bit different. Here, the candidate should have necessarily cleared the examination of 8th standard. 

 

4.   International Driving Permit

When an applicant looks for an international driving Licence it implies that the person is eligible to rent and drive any vehicle in a foreign land.

However, it can only be issued if you already have a permanent driving Licence. The International Driving Permit has validity for 1 year only. And on the expiry, one would need to apply again.

Documents Required

To apply for Learner’s License in India, the following documents will be required:

v Address proof: (any document from the following list)

a)  Recent telephone or Electricity Bill

b)  LIC Bond

c)   Aadhaar Card

d)  Passport

e)  Ration Card

f)    Gas Bill

g)  House Rent Agreement.

 

v Age proof: (any document from the following list)

a)  PAN Card

b)  Birth Certificate

c)   ransfer certificate from school with date of birth mentioned on it

d)  10th Standard Mark Sheet

e)  Passport

 

v Application Fees:

           Learner’s License Rs. 240/- required.

 

v Passport-size photographs:

         At least 3 photographs

 

v Medical Certificate:

To be signed by a certified Government doctor (if applicable)

 

v Form 1A:

You can download the form from the state RTO portal

 

v Application Form:

Completely filled (You can download the form from the state RTO portal or you can procure it from the nearest RTO office)
