Significance of 10 Weapon in Hand Maa Durga



Durga puja and Navratri drenched to the bone in the festive colors in west Bengal.Durga Puja, the festival is celebrated with much entertainment in west Bengal. Durga Puja and Navratri is a widely observed festival in India and Durja puja is the main festival in the West Bengal.
The goddess is worshiped as a daughter in West Bengal. The Durga puja 6-day festival start after 7 days of Navaratri days in every year but in the year 2020 Durga puja will begins after 25 days Navatarti day

Goddess Durga has 10 arms and each arm carries different weapons have many mythological Story. Here we will discuss about story behind those 10 weapons that Goddess Durga carries in her arms and their significance.




1 – Thunderbolt:
Gifted by Lord Indra, Maa Durga holds thunderbolt in one of her hands which thunderbolt or Vajra symbolic firmness of character, determination, and supreme power.
The Thunderbolt or Vajra was gifted to Maa Durga by Lord Indra.




2 – Trishul or Trident:
Goddess Durga holds a Trident or Trishul, three-headed sharp weapon, which is said to symbolise the three qualities humankind is made of - tamas, rajas and sattva. The Goddess uses this triedent to slaughter the demon-king Mahishasura.
The Trishul or Trident was gifted to Maa Durga by Lord Shiva.





3 – Sword:
The weapon sword symbolizes intellect and wisdom.  The symbol the sword tell that the knowledge is the force whose strength can never fade.
 Sword was gifted to Maa Durga by Lord Kala.




4 – Sudarshan Chakra:
Sudarshan Chakra spins in the pointer finger of the goddess and symbolizes that  she does to hold control of the world. This is an infallible weapon to destroy evil.
Sudarshan Chakra was gifted to Maa Durga by Lord Vishnu.





5 – Conch Shell or Sankha:
Sankha symbolizes two things that are humility and success which is symbolic of the sacred ‘Om’ that happens to be the most primitive sound in the universe.
Conch Shell was gifted to Maa Durga by Lord Varuna or Varun Deva.




6 – Spear:
The spear in one hand symbolizes auspiciousness, pure, fiery power. It also signifies hidden power of human to overcome all type of obstacles in life.
Spear was gifted to Maa Durga by Lord Agni.




7 – Bow and Arrow:
This symbolizes both potential and kinetic energies. Bow symbolizes potential and arrow symbolizes the Power and implies that Devi Durga controls all the energies of the world.
Bow and Arrow was gifted to Maa Durga by Lord Vayu and Surya.




8 – Club or Axe:
The Axe weapon symbolizes the power to destructive and constructive in nature
Club or Axe was gifted to Maa Durga by Lord Visvakarma.




9 – Half-bloomed Lotus:
The Half bloomed lotus in Maa Durga’s Hand signifies humidity. It symbolizes liberation through Knowledge, wisdom and to stay truthful to our spiritual quest.
Half-bloomed Lotus was gifted to Maa Durga by Lord Brahma.





10 –Kamandalu:
Kamandalu symbolizes Amrita(water) the elixir of life. It signifies that Maa Durga is the elixir of all life on earth.
Kamandalu was gifted to Maa Durga by Brahma
